Interest rate rises are hurting Australians
— is there a fairer way to reduce inflation?

If your mortgage is up, fuel costs are rising, groceries are more expensive, and your pay hasn’t kept up — you’re not alone.

For many Australians, the pressure is already there.

Mortgage repayments have risen sharply — in many cases by well over $1,000 a month — while wages have not kept pace.

At the same time, everyday costs like food, fuel, and electricity continue to climb.

We are told to cut back spending — but for many households, there is nothing left to cut.

This raises an important question: is there a fairer way to reduce inflation without placing such heavy pressure on mortgage holders?

A fairer approach

One possible alternative is to apply the same principle more evenly across the community, rather than placing most of the burden on mortgage holders.

Instead of relying primarily on interest rate rises, an equivalent contribution could be made by working Australians more broadly, with those funds directed into superannuation rather than bank profits.

This would still reduce overall spending power — helping to control inflation — but would spread the impact more fairly, instead of concentrating it on one group.

At the same time, those contributions would build long-term savings, helping Australians move toward a more secure and dignified retirement.
